We praise God for bringing us through this past year of pandemic-living and celebrate that Chicago is in the bridge between phase 4 and phase 5 of Reopening Chicago. This means we can make some changes to our Sunday worship service capacity and protocol. See highlights below and any future updates on First Free’s website.

  • Self-dismissal without ushers; still encourage people to socially distance as they leave and meet outside for conversation as possible.
  • Masks should still be worn indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
  • Groups should be seated 6′ or more apart. (this is a decrease from 10 feet apart)
  • Capacity is driven primarily by the number of groups, not the total people, so we can have appropriate spacing between groups. A rough estimate will be seating about 60 people for the main floor of the Sanctuary and 35 for the balcony. If you are comfortable sitting next to others outside of your family, please register together in order to be seated together.
  • Multiple musicians on stage – up to 4 band members with only one unmasked (i.e. one singer).
  • Continue opening all the windows that can open in the Sanctuary.
  • Continue offering seating in the “Family Table Room” (i.e. the 120s) with capacity being set at 5 tables. This is for families with children who need more freedom to move about or who want a table to work at for sermon notes, coloring pages, etc. This is also ideal for anyone who is not comfortable with an unmasked singer or preacher, but still wants to worship with others at church.
